Antoinette Lohmann, baroque violin

DissensoDuo [Giorgos Samoilis, baroque violin & Alex Mastichiadis, harpsichord]

Works from the early Italian and German baroque by Turini, Biber and Castello.

Antoinette Lohmann (Amsterdam, 1969) studied violin with Jean Louis Stuurop, viola with Esther van Stralen and baroque violin with Lucy van Dael at the Sweelinck Conservatorium in Amsterdam. Antoinette has always performed in a very diverse range of musical styles, among them Argentinian tango, folk music, contemporary music, musical theatre and salon music. Since 1997 she has focused on historical performance practice on violin, viola, tenor viola and viola d’amore. With Cappella Figuralis she made several recordings of mainly northern European Baroque music. Her many recordings include quartets for strings and bassoon by Franz Danzi and Franz Krommer with Jane Gower (ensemble ‘Island’).

Antoinette is also the leader of the Utrechts Barok Consort. With this group she recently performed her own reconstruction of a Bach viola concerto. Currently she performs frequently with Musica Temprana (South American baroque/folk music), Ensemble Schönbrunn and The Netherlands Bach Society. Antoinette teaches baroque violin and baroque viola at the Utrecht Conservatory (The Netherlands).

The DissensoDuo is an early music duet, formed by Giorgos Samoilis, baroque violin, and Alex Mastichiadis, harpsichord and organ. The two Greek musicians met in 2013 during their studies in the Conservatory of Utrecht in the Netherlands. Their contrasting personalities together with their shared interest in early Italian baroque music led to a unique chemistry when performing onstage. Having as a starting point music from early 17th century, DissensoDuo studies and performs the whole spectrum of repertoire for violin and keyboard composed from 1600 until late 18th century. Taking into account that improvisation is a very important element of historically informed performance practice, they always encompass it in their performances. DissensoDuo has performed in various concert halls in the Netherlands as well as in Greece.
